Internship position available: Marketing & Media liaison

We are offering a 4-month, paid internship as part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme supported by VANSA and ArtBAnk through the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture:

Social marketing & media liaison + assistant project management of Lounge+
To commence 7 December 2020.

Project Synopsis: Arisen from the need to develop virtual content, as comfortably and “physically” as possible, the AVA has conceptualised a brand-new project to operate from its Voorkamer/Salon room: Lounge+. From this space, conversations about art production and project management take place, partly physical but with extension via Zoom into other artists’ lounges and studios. Content will be turned into podcasts for perusal by peers afterwards. An intern in the field of social media marketing will gain valuable experience of setting up a new programme and ongoing content development for all of AVA’s programmes.

Job Description:

  • Interaction with visitors to the gallery, physical + virtual, including artists and art audiences.

  • Daily duties such as answering the phone, e-mail correspondence, filing, etc.

  • Media liaison support to media liaison officer, including artists’ liaison, post design, content development, post scheduling and audience liaison.

  • Lounge+ production support including logistics and audio/visual operations.

  • End-to-end (concept-to-completion) of an arts project: independently planned and organised by the intern: Lounge+ session (under the supervision of the director).

  • Ad-hoc support to other organisational departments (i.e. marketing or Selection Committee) making up no more than 15% of the intern’s time.

Goals:

  • Learning (by participation, assistance and doing) all aspects of marketing of the arts - social media-specifc. i.e. interpreting marketing matrix, scheduling, interviewing artists, developing content, audience engagement.

  • Learning (by participation, assistance and doing) all aspects of medium-sized art project management: Lounge+ sessions, i.e. (A) the production of a group discussion on art, with live and visual participants, (B) the production of a podcast from selected audio and video recordings of the session in question.

  • Managing a small art project independently: a lounge+ session.

  • Learning the various aspects of working in an art gallery and NPO arts organisation.

Experience and abilities required:

  • Experience with maintaining social media accounts (FaceBook and Instagram) .

  • Good writing and communication skills.

  • A proficiency with basic sound & video equipment

  • Computer literate, with basic proficiency with Adobe and/or Indesign.

  • Ability to work well within a team and to work independently.

  • Being friendly and service-orientated towards all gallery visitors.

Hours: 30hrs/week

Remuneration via the VANSA Internship Programme: R5 700/month.
