Who are the InstaCrew?

InstaCrew = installation crew training programme

In September 2018 we put out a call for motivated, enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in arts and culture to apply for the Exhibition Installation Training Programme, which saw teams of 3-4 trainees participate in on-the-job training hosted by rotating professional installers.


Project Description

For 2 to 3 consecutive days in a month trainees learn various aspects of installing 2D wall-based artwork, 3D artwork, new media and installation art work, such as: 

  • Basic curatorial concepts and considerations;

  • Surface preparations;

  • Essential tools and fittings for artwork installation;

  • Basic formulas and measurements for hanging heights and visual eye-lines;

  • Lighting plans and implementation;

  • Health and safety requirements.

Are you interested in learning the skills required to professionally install an exhibition?

The pilot programme was supported by the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) in association with Nedbank Arts Affinity, and its successor, InstaCrew I which is currently running, by the Provincial Government of the Western Cape - Department of Arts, Culture and Sports.
