HEAT WINTER ARTS FESTIVAL

AVA is pleased to announce its participation in HEAT Winter Arts Festival opening this July!

HEAT is coming to Cape Town this winter, taking place in the city centre from July 11 to 21. The 12-day festival will take the edge off the chill with 14 art galleries showcasing exhibitions around the theme "Common Ground," curated by Voni Baloyi, Mary Corrigall, Andrew Lamprecht, and Nkgopoleng Moloi.

Designed to unite galleries, artists, and the community during Cape Town's cold July, the festival also includes opera, jazz, theatre and dance at venues all within walking distance of each other.

Participating galleries include; The AVA, Christopher Moller, Ebony/Curated, Eclectica Contemporary, Kalashnikovv, Loop 99, Michaelis Galleries, Nel Gallery, Reservoir Projects, Sisonke Gallery, Under the Aegis, Union House, Vela Projects, and WORLDART. Meet-the-Artist events will allow the public to engage directly with some artists and curators, starting with an event at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel on July 11. The exhibitions explore themes of community and inclusion, focusing on how the LGBTQI population and African traditions form supportive networks.

Complementing the visual arts are opera, jazz, and theatre programmes featuring young performers. Highlights include operas curated by Jeremy Silver, from Opera UCT, a jazz programme curated by Slowlife that includes Operation Khataza and The Johnny Wxlf Experience, and theatre works by Rob Van Vuuren, Double Impact, Furies & Co, Andi Colombo, Aldo Brinkat, Sue Pam Grant, Okwamanzi Arts Junction and Pichi Keane. Kizomba classes by Angolan dancer Klinsmann Ferreira will also be offered, encouraging community through dance.

HEAT runs from July 11 to 21 across multiple venues in Cape Town. Visit www.heatfestival.org for more information or email hello@heatfestival.org.
